Thank you, Norman, for 18 years of service to self-employed people

Sunday, December 09, 2018

Last Wednesday we had a thank you dinner for Norman Lacy, our Chair of 10 years and board member since our formation 18 years ago.

Norman has finally decided to step aside from Self-Employed Australia. We had a wonderful dinner which included a presentation and discussion from Robert Gottliebsen, business columnist for The Australian on current business, economic and political events.

Coincidentally, last Wednesday was also International Volunteer Day with the theme being ‘Volunteers Build Resilient Communities.’ Norman, like the rest of the board of Self-Employed Australia, is a volunteer. Over 18 years Norman has demonstrated his commitment to building a ‘resilient’ self-employed community. Remember that there are over two million of us in Australia.

Norman has been our steady, reflective and cautious guiding hand, keeping our focus on achieving practical outcomes for self-employed people. During Norman’s time we’ve achieved much more than a small, volunteer organisation should expect to achieve including:
And, most recently
These are real, tangible outcomes each one of which was achieved after considerable, dedicated campaigning by us under Norman’s guidance. These are lasting legacies.

Norman is leaving Self-Employed Australia in great shape. We are marching on with our campaigns with the big one to achieve reform of the Australian Taxation Office to secure fair and just treatment for all small business people.
